The one about repetitions

This may be one of the least-read posts of mine. But I wanted to write this to remind myself that the repetitions matter. The work behind the scenes matters. The daily 6 am accountability calls matter. The seemingly mundane tasks that do not result in likes on social media matter. Because what happened recently was a prime example of this.

In November, I had the pleasure of hosting a fireside chat with Patrick Chan, the most decorated Olympic figure skater in Canadian history, in front of 750+ attendees at the 12th annual Federation of Asian Canadian Lawyers BC gala.

There have been a few speaking engagements where I felt like I absolutely nailed it, and this was it. It was a 15-minute conversation, but I was in flow the entire time.

While it looked natural to the attendees, I know without a doubt that the “naturalness” was due to the countless repetitions hosting a podcast, working with my speaking coach and reading numerous books on how to truly live in the present.

Life can look like a highlight reel, but the highlight reel doesn’t show the endless repetitions behind the scenes to get to this point.
