The one about resistance

Resistance is a funny thing. Resistance can prevent us from making decisions that can harm us, but it can also prevent us from making decisions that benefit us.

It can seem as if the leaders in history have never faced any resistance. Perhaps they possess some magical ability to push past their internal resistance. I don’t know how true this is, but I may have just figured out the secret here.

Instead of letting resistance take over our day-to-day decisions, perhaps we can view the feeling of resistance as a signal, as a friend, and as a guide to what we should actually be doing.

For instance:

  1. I resisted waking up at 5 am today to start my Cantonese lesson.
  2. I resisted sending the note to a new language partner to meet up.
  3. I resisted messaging a warm contact about a speaking opportunity.
  4. I resisted booking a time slot with my speaking coach.
  5. I resisted sending my tax documents to my accountant.
  6. I resisted reading a book on wealth that a friend recommended.
  7. I resisted turning on this laptop to type out this post about resistance.
  8. I resisted sharing this post with friends and colleagues on social media.

But I did it anyways. And more. I haven’t felt this “productive” on a Sunday for a while, and I think we may be on to something here.
